Dear Editor,
I wish to congratulate former managing director of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Colin Campbell for the hard-working manner in which he performed throughout his tenure for close to three years.
An excellent Sunday Gleaner column, written by former JUTC board chairman, Rev Garnett Roper, recently, pointed to the plethora of successes that Campbell had at the JUTC over the period. Revenue inflows were increased; the Smarter Card and frequent travel discounts were put in place; new buses were purchased and put into the bus complement; theft of bus parts were greatly reduced and a loss prevention manager was appointed, namely former Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis; additional buses were sent to here in Montego Bay; JUTC managers were all trained and certified as bus drivers and all drivers and conductors were further trained in customer service and drivers underwent a driver defensive driving course.
I recognised the fact that the JUTC, under Campbell’s leadership, was significantly reformed into an efficient, on time, and more professional way which enabled the company to improve in a positive manner and that is why the JUTC has been seeing improving passenger numbers for the past three years due to the many new effective policies that were implemented by the former distinguished managing director of which, as a taxpayer, I feel so proud. I congratulate him for serving the company so well.
No other head of JUTC has accomplished as much as Colin Campbell.
As it relates to St Andrew Southern, I think that Campbell, with his long political experience, would be the best party member to be appointed chairman of the constituency for the People’s National Party, taking over from Omar Davies. He is a long-standing member of integrity and I do hope that he receives the majority of delegates’ support in the constituency at the constituency delegates’ elections in August.
