Dear Editor,
I have to commend letter writer Michael Dingwall for the ‘great’ explanation he gave in the
Jamaica Observer of August 2, 2016 for what happened on the
Zong slave ship.
My mind had been tormented after viewing countless films on the Holocaust, but I can now breathe easier knowing that it was perfectly normal and does not show the evil of man.
In the world of the 1930s it was the cultural norm to treat Jews badly, so Hitler killing six million of them was not a massacre. Of course, Hitler hated people with even a drop of African blood as well. Still, most of the Northern world shared that sentiment.
According to Dingwall, if Hitler had conquered Britain and shipped the blacks in Jamaica to Auschwitz, exterminating him and his family would again be fully justified because of the times.
