Dear Editor,
Happy 54th year of Independence to you, Jamaica. We should be duly proud of our accomplishments over these approximately five and half decades. Having said that, however, we must acknowledge that there is much more to be accomplished and with the talents and intelligence that we possess as Jamaicans, our economy should be far more advanced, benefiting the ordinary man of our beautiful nation.
We need to reject any entity, person or group that is hell-bent on dividing us as a people. Unity is strength, and has always been. Reject partisan politics and tribalism on this our 54th year of Independence, and moving forward. Reject selfishness. Reject greed.
It is full time we come to the realisation that we have been brainwashed in such a way that we can merely see ourselves as “JLP” and “PNP”. We are Jamaicans first and above any politics.
We need to ask ourselves a few pertinent questions:
1) Why are our politicians so hungry for power?
2) Is it because they love the ordinary man, or is it because they want to advance their individual and personal goals and agendas?
3)Is it because of the status and perks that fall into their laps in the acquisition of those political roles? Think clearly.
Who becomes better off after each five-year period of a Member of Parliament being elected?
Are you able to live as comfortably as they do?
We need to reject any notion of disunity and tribalism among our people. We must move forward as a united people, ensuring that those we put at the helm have the interest of the poor at heart.
