Bunting strategic, Blythe wasting time

Dear Editor,

The decision by Peter Bunting not to challenge Portia Simpson Miller for the presidency of the party is an excellent and strategic one, thus waiting on Simpson Miller to make her exit timetable public and to the party first. The decision will also allow him more time to work with islandwide delegates and get their overall majority support, guaranteeing him victory whenever the presidential elections are held.

Bunting, being the strategic political thinker he is, is gaining much support traction among party delegates for the presidency and has been diligently stating his overall reform and renewal plans for the party in various party forums, including that of term limits for the position of party president, vice-presidents, general secretary and chairman, which is finding favour with party members as myself. He has been astutely speaking on the economic vision that he has for the country and how the party should progressively state such policies going forward as the Government-in-waiting and for renewing the party at all levels.

Peter Phillips will be an excellent senior vice-president of the party next to Bunting. I see in a future People’s National Party (PNP) Government Bunting would be the serving prime minister, with Phillips being the deputy prime minister, and Mark Golding being finance minister.

The decision by Dr Carl Blythe to contest against Simpson Miller for the party’s job for a one-year transitional period is downright absurd and a grand waste of political time.

The fact of the matter is that he stands absolutely no chance of coming out victorious over lame duck President Simpson Miller, and his efforts seems opportunistic, yet fruitless.
