Dear Editor,
With the Indian tour of the West Indies coming to an end soon, it is clear that the Windies are far behind the others, except for teams like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
With the way things are right now, it will continue to be the beating stick when it comes to Test and ODI cricket. The current members of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) are out of control. It is not proper to speak ill of your employer in public, especially the way in which Sammy did at the final of the World T20. But it had to be done.
For several years players have complained about the bad treatment of the WICB. Now, if a number of players are complaining about the bad treatment coming from the board for a long period of time, it is a sign that the members need to leave or change their attitudes.
The chairman of selectors stated that the players who were picked for the two T20 matches coming up in Florida were selected on performance. Now, if that was really true, why are players like Jason Holder, Carlos Brathwaite, Evin Lewis and Marlon Samuels on the team?
In the World T20 tournament Lewis played one game and went for a duck. For the recent Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Brathwaite played a few games and did not perform well, and Samuels did not even perform at all. Jason Holder’s place on the team has not been justified, since he did not play in the World T20 at all, performed badly in the Indian Premier League, and did not even play in the CPL. Sammy, on the other hand, did not do much with bat and ball in the T20 World Cup, but in the CPL he was amazing.
With that said, the selectors could not have only used recent performances. The selectors and board need to do what’s best for the region by picking players that have experience and can put up a good fight against the top-ranked nations.
