Give us back the old Andrew Holness

Dear Editor,

It would seem we have a brand new Andrew Holness than the one prior to February 25, 2016. If this is the case, then I am going to ask that we get back the Andrew Holness that was on the campaign trail decrying crime and offering solutions to the crime problems in Jamaica. Give us back the Andrew Holness who, when he was on every political platform campaigning for power, was very vocal about the killing of children and the vulnerable.

It is clear that the Andrew Holness we have now for prime minister is a brand new one that was popped out of a box, and as such he is not aware or pretends not to be aware of the numerous killings. Just this week there were six shootings in four days, one involving a two-year-old, and Holness, who used to be vocal, has remained silent.

I am asking that we get back the Andrew Holness that made this remark on a political platform: “If you want to be safe in yuh yard, if you want to be able to fall asleep and lef’ your door open and wake up in the morning and still be alive, you cannot make the mistake of putting in the PNP.”

This was an undertaking given to the people of this country by Holness that he would ensure that when the Jamaica Labour Party was elected to power people would be safer.

We must ask, hasn’t Holness failed?

If Holness has reneged on this commitment, then he must retract this statement forthwith and apologise to the people of Jamaica. But in the meantime, give us back the old Andrew Holness who seemed to have been concerned about crime and violence prior to February 25, 2016.
