Dear Editor,
I am amazed at the hypocrisy that has taken over the country of Jamaica since the Jamaica Labour Party gained power in February.
Suddenly the issues of the media are not about the rampant killings that have taken over the country by Jamaicans who are hell-bent on destruction.
Suddenly, with the influx of Twitter and other means of social media, those who are called journalists — instead of actually reporting news that needs to be reported — prefer to spend time tweeting about ‘drama’ and people’s business.
When the life of a two-year-old child is snuffed out by people with guns and it is business as usual, it speaks volumes to what we have become as a people.
We have a Government that promised the people of Jamaica that once they got into power things would change, so far the only changes have been for Andrew Holness to flood his social media pages with photos of himself still trying to make it as Jamaica’s next top model. And, we have a minister of national security who has no clue what to do.
In the meantime, many Jamaicans seem to be more interested in who Usain Bolt might have been with while he was in Rio than they are about the total disregard for life that is prevalent in Jamaica.
I suppose at the end of it all it is much easier to boast about the many medals won at the Olympics than it is to address the critical issues facing the country. It speaks volumes about Jamaica and its people, sadly not too many people seem to care.
