Dear Editor,
In all the euphoria surrounding the $1.5-m two-stage tax break one important segment of taxpayers has been totally overlooked: the over 65s.
Many across the boundaries of partisanship are still grappling with the unbearable burden of the 150 per cent increase in land tax.
Have these retirees got an increase or any relief in recent times to help? Maybe a little land tax relief? Maybe an increase of their NIS pension?
What has this consumer group got? Nothing! That’s what.
How does Audley Shaw expect to see a rise in consumer spending — and thus income from GCT — if we old-agers don’t have any disposable income? Please rethink the Government’s apparent position on tax benefits for the elderly.
