Please, Works Minister, fix roads

The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services is calling on minister with responsibility for works, Everald Warmington, to address the deteriorating road conditions in a number of parishes as a matter of urgency.

While we fully support the action taken by transport operators in St Thomas, we must make it clear that we would prefer a consultative process and a timetable to repair critical roadways across the island.

Public transport operators are harassed by the Island Traffic Authority, who await the taxi driver at the end of every pothole to take our plates off. This is despite the fact that some operators have to change front-end parts every couple of weeks.

The inaction by the State cannot be allowed to continue. If this road problem cannot be addressed we will continue to support the protest action of operators across the island.

We appeal to the minister to see the sector as a player in the process of national development and meet us halfway in addressing the problems we face.
