Support and use dispute resolution services

Dear Editor,

Thank you for the story on page four of the Jamaica Observer West, on Thursday, September 8, 2016, by Anthony Lewis, featuring the work of the wonderful Hanover Mediation Centre, an affiliate of the Dispute Resolution Foundation.

As budgets are being decided for 2017, I hope your readers will let corporate social investing include the mediation and dispute resolution organisations that provide critical and complementary justice. They can plan in their HR and training budget to train or sensitise staff in mediation and other processes that will improve the work environment. The use of mediation as a first option in our organisations is possible by calling on the entities above to provide the services required.

These civil society entities, with a focus on justice, peace and development address the concerns and issues of the communities and parishes, providing a model, as dedicated volunteers and stakeholders with the patronage of the custodes work for good in the parishes.

The cry for support to such organisations deserves a good response from those who want to invest in Jamaica’s progress towards a more harmonious and productive society.

Conflicts that go unresolved cost us in relationships, safety and economic growth.
