Mercy for Al Miller — JUGC

The Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches (JUGC) has taken note of the ruling of the courts in regards to Rev Merrick “Al” Miller. While we respect the ruling of the court, we consider the outcome as very unfortunate.

We have known Rev Merrick “Al” Miller as a clergyman who has strong convictions grounded in his faith understanding; one who has demonstrated strong and deep commitment to the growth and development of Jamaica and who has shared in our national life in various ways. We believe that the circumstances that have led to the ruling of the courts were based on such convictions and one who was willing to act in face of the crisis with which our beloved country was faced. In fact, he placed his life on the line for Jamaica.

In view if this, and in our common commitment as the Church to help Jamaica address the grave problem of crime and violence, we humbly appeal to our courts to be lenient in the sentence that will be handed down late this month.
