Dear Editor,
For the first in a very long time, my family and I — and indeed many of my neighbours — felt a sense of assurance that Jamaica was being led by the most capable pair of hands at a time when we needed it most.
The proactive on-the-ground approach by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, whose communicative style is unmatched by his predecessors, raises the standard of leadership during crisis to new levels.
Holness was our virtual bulwark against Hurricane Matthew. And he stood up to the test of the mighty storm as he did the awesome challenge of keeping our nation and the world informed, while keeping the naysayers at bay.
Those who did and even those who did not vote for the Jamaica Labour Party in the February 25 election must, by now, be experiencing the unfolding of that deep down feeling they would have had about Holness’s capacity to be better than he was back then. His improved performance has no doubt inspired those government agencies involved in the monitoring and response effort to Hurricane Matthew — all of which performed at a higher level.
Keep rising, Mr Prime Minister.
