Our youth need better values

Dear Editor,

There is no doubt in my mind that our society has lost its moral values. When we look around and see what is being promoted it is shocking. The question is, what went wrong?

The answer is simple: core values have been devalued in our society. Integrity, selflessness, trustworthiness, and honesty have all lost their value.

How do we fix it? By promoting good values and attitudes.

Some time ago a national school mentorship programme was launched by Reginald Budhan in the secondary school system called the Respect Agenda Campaign. We need programmes like that to mould our young people; teaching good core values which are important in living a meaningful life.

Another suggestion could be incentivisation; it would be great to see our inner-city youth being awarded for the good they have done. Let us creatively engage our young people.
