RGD search scam?

Dear Editor,

In August 2016 I completed an application online and paid for five hours of genealogy research by the Registrar General’s Department Genealogy Section on my family history. As I received no contact from them, I then had to contact them by phone to even find out if they had received my payment.

I received an e-mail from a Michelle Williams, research supervisor of the Genealogy Unit, Twickenham Park, finally acknowledging receipt and processing of my payment.

I was then informed that I would have the information I paid for by October 4, 2016. It is now November 8, 2016 and, after many unanswered phone calls and letters, I have not received anything and, when I call the office, the phone rings without an answer.

It feels like I have been scammed. They have taken my money, now I am receiving no response from them, and then they do absolutely nothing. This exacerbated by the fact that I am overseas and cannot just walk into an office.

I am so proud of my Jamaican heritage, but this is disgraceful. How can they operate like this and call themselves a professional agency?

I have asked, in writing, for a refund, but, as per usual, no response. They are an embarrassment.
