Dear Editor,
I am very concerned about the series of failures of structures at the Royalton Hotel sites in Jamaica. First, the collapse of a roof of Royalton Negril a few months ago, and now the collapse of the Royalton roof in Trelawny.
My concern is of other failures.
The Negril incident was investigated and, so far, I have not heard the outcome of that investigation.
One wonders if the design standards used by the engineers conform with Jamaica’s building codes. Buildings all over Jamaica, for the last 100 years, have stood the test of time because we design to the California earthquake codes and our buildings are well designed to withstand earthquakes.
