Dear Editor,
Tuesday, November 6, the date of the US elections, will decide Barack Obama's fate and destiny (karma). The margin he has created over his Republican rival in terms of poll numbers is around three per cent, within the margin of error, and very possible for his opponents to still do a swing in voter confidence.
But I do not believe elections swing on whims and rumours of the American public. Indeed, I believe they are immune to the vagaries of politics by this time, and that the votes will be in Obama's favour. In talking to my associates in the United States, I have been receiving certain reasons that appear credible. Here are some of them:
* Obama is moving to end the war in Afghanistan, return the troops home by the end of 2014. Many of the soldiers are already back in the USA. The war in Iraq is ended as he promised, and the troops are home - so, a promise kept.
* He wishes women to have preventative health care, especially since a choice in procreation is part of the programme.
* He thinks billionaires and millionaires should pay a fair share of taxes - "to whom much has been given, much shall be required".
* He has said that for the past 20 years he has heard from politicians that affordable health care for small companies is difficult to implement, but the Affordable Health Care Act seems to satisfy many people. It raises the age of children covered, eliminates pre-existing condition clauses, removes lifetime concerns and caps insurance against malpractice.
* And all of this work has been completed in a depressed economy, including adding three million new jobs, thus improving the economy.
Yet this is not all. Just days ago we saw Obama's action in a time of crisis - the "superstorm" reaction. He threw himself into the middle of the melee, organising governors, mayors, and Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) workers, and building a relationship of trust and cooperation, with all executives in government throughout the affected states.
Then he soothed a distracted Israeli Government by confirming the support of the USA, and sending troops to support "Israeli-USA war games" in the Persian Gulf, receiving the appreciation of the entire Cabinet, including Prime Minister Netanyahu. I expect Obama to win with an outstanding majority.
