Dear Editor,

I have now come to the conclusion that we are yet to be freed from our slave master, and therefore permission would have to be sought before one can join, attend and participate in any social event.

The march in Half-Way-Tree on Sunday was supported by hundreds of Jamaicans, and even though I was not amidst the crowd I salute their efforts.

The criticisms levelled at the organisers, including that the church is stepping in a little too late, are unfair. I ask these critics these questions. How can it be too late when there are unborn children? How can it be too late when children as young as seven years of age have become the victims of such

brutal acts?

What the organisers of the rally did was to exercise what is called freedom of speech. No one was forced to participate. Those who are speaking against the march do not realise that they are trampling on people's human rights.

Let us learn to respect each other's choices and opinions. So thanks to the organisers of the rally, and I hope this will ignite the flame in others to bring awareness to other issues that are affecting us as a nation.
