Dear Editor,
Our Minister of Health Dr Fenton Ferguson just doesn't get it. Your Sunday Observer piece confirmed to all that he resides in a bubble. His attempt to play up a disaster-ridden health sector that is in the worse shape it has been in the last two decades points to nothing short of an absolute disgrace.
To add insult to injury, his planned tour of "upgraded" clinics starting October 23 is nothing short of his standard ribbon-cutting and pose-for-pictures modus operandi which underpins his ministry's lack of focus.
That Dr Ferguson, in the midst of a serious "infection" debacle regarding babies at the University Hospital of the West Indies, and possibly elsewhere in our public health system, could find the time to paint pretty pictures about his performance is reprehensible at best. This is made even worse against the background of a devastating chikungunya epidemic that is reported to have claimed lives, and a sector with glaring deficiencies and lack of basic medical supplies that is well documented.
It is full time that some of us Jamaicans, including some in the media, put a stop to the celebration of failure, and do what we can to weed out failed leaders.
