Dear Editor,
I am deeply disturbed by the silence of all the Jamaica Labour Party female members of parliament and the Senate on the boorish behaviour of MP Everald Warmington from St Catherine South Western towards their fellow female parliamentarian, Lisa Hanna.
It seems to be a hush, hush thing among these ladies, and to me as a young person, this is quite frightening. Politics aside, for them this has to be about women sticking together and defending the limited rights so dearly fought for, or are they willing to accept such uncouth behaviour as a means of political expediency.
The world unfortunately is still not the ideal place for women, we often face undeniable inequality and rampant sexism. We are not going to solve this problem by creating the perfect environment for it, as women we should be each other’s greatest allies.
We are supposed to empower each other let us not give our young girls the impression that it is okay for a man to verbally abuse women, and demonstrate to young men that it is okay to do this as well. Warmington was way out of line, and I am baffled by the fact that none of the Opposition’s women of the House have said so openly.
Warmington has become infamous for inappropriate behaviour, this troubling trend also gives a clear indication of his dislike for women, especially attractive ones with high IQs. His recent utterances are not only an insult to Hanna but to all Jamaican women, it also shows gross disregard for the Parliament and the people’s business.
What he did was just plain rude and repugnant. If he is not flipping his middle finger at news reporters, he is out spewing disgusting references at women.
What manner of a man is he? All women regardless of their political persuasion must condemn what this man represents.
