Dear Editor,
I write to register how upset I am dealing with Jamaica Customs Agency. The present commissioner is acting like a law unto himself.
I import used cars and pack them into containers so that they are protected. To fit them in the container, I remove the bumpers and fenders from two of them and this allows me to fit six vehicles, instead of five. I am then able to pass these savings on to my customers.
Prior to shipping, I checked with the Trade Board and found that this does not constitute a “damaged vehicle” as described by the Trade Board or the Island Traffic Authority. If the Trade Board accepts that this is not illegal, then Customs should not seek to breach, or worse, forfeit people’s assets with their mad mind approach.
People work hard to have a business in Jamaica and we need a Customs Agency not just to have a new computer system but new thinking.
Andrew Holness and Audley Shaw will not see the prosperity they promised unless we have thinking people who care in government departments. This makes me so angry at times!
Come on, Jamaica Customs, do better than this. Work wid wi nuh man. All a wi a nuh teif.
