Dear Editor,
Donald Trump is no saint! And, yes, he has made many unkind statements. However, I am happy and, elated even, that Hillary Clinton lost.
Why am I happy? Haiti!
The Clinton Foundation raised funds purportedly to help the people of Haiti after the country was devastated by the January 2010 earthquake. It is alleged that Haiti did not benefit from most of the funds collected in its name.
Why am I happy? The Clinton Foundation. This charitable organisation collected funds from countries where the idea of a woman driving a car is shunned and having one running for president is unthinkable. I guess she only speaks power to women and girls when you are speaking to a misinformed, gullible public.
Why am I happy? Conservatism won. It can be argued that some of the American voters who voted for Donald Trump are not racist, misogynistic bigots. They are ordinary people who hold a certain world view. This group felt that they were under attack from those on the political left and the elites in academia and the media. For them, this election was their chance to send the status quo a message.
Why am I happy? The politics of identity lost. The media and Clinton herself spent time focusing on pockets or groups of voters. The Latino vote, black vote, women vote, etc. No attempt was made to speak to the issues that Americans face in spite of their race, gender, religion, etc. She and her out-of-touch, clueless supporters in the intelligentsia and media, convinced of certain victory at the polls, assumed that all they needed to do was point out all the idiosyncrasies of her opponent. The ideas and issues of the ordinary American voters did not matter to her.
