Regain control of the country

Dear Editor,

The recent upsurge in crime has left many virtually speechless. It seems almost unreal reading the news these days: A woman teacher stabbed at Dunrobin High by a mob, in full view of students; another teacher beaten and stabbed to death by an angry mob in an incident clearly driven by panic; five females raped, including an eight-year-old. And the list goes on.

The country seems to be in a period of chaos and confusion, fear is taking over, as too many seem to be living and acting like wild animals, without a care in the world as they fend for themselves and act out their frustrations, emotions randomly on impulse.

Where are law, order and justice? In times like these citizens look to their leaders for decisive, effective leadership, yet even they too seem to have been silenced — stunned. We can pray day and night, but it cannot be business as usual. Citizens of Jamaica — at least law-abiding ones — must go all out to regain control of the country, we must tighten our grip and demand much better and hold people accountable. Civilised people don't live like this. Where is our national security? Where is the PM? Is anyone really in charge?

May God help us, Jamaica, land we love.
